Moms can be particularly good at beating themselves up, adding to the daily struggles of managing homework, sibling fights, meals, impossible schedules, and keeping the house livable (notice I didn’t say clean). Most days getting a shower feels like conquering world hunger. And shaving your legs? Forget it. Not until beach season, baby.
We know this mommy-guilt and negative self-talk is not helpful, increasing stress and anxiety levels, boosting depression symptoms, and making life feel even more overwhelming than it already is. For this reason, Anchorpoint’s SPIN Moms have taken up the task of challenging these pesky negative thoughts, and here’s what they have to say:
-
There’s no such thing as a perfect mom. I’m not striving to be perfect; instead I’m learning to be me.
-
I need to put my own oxygen mask on first. I need time for myself so that I am better able to care for others, and I refuse to feel guilty about it!
-
There’s no shame in asking for help. I wouldn’t judge my best friend for needing help, so I won’t judge myself.
-
I don’t have to look like the women on the covers of magazines. I also don’t have to “let myself go” because I’m a busy mom. I will make time to feel good about the way I look, whatever that means for me.
-
Just because some other moms are good at hiding their struggles doesn’t mean they don’t have any. I will recognize my strengths, I will be my own person, and I will stop comparing myself to other moms.
6. I’m doing the best I can with what I have, and that’s incredible!
