Day 2: The Triumph of Hope
The resurrection is God's triumph over our broken world.
It changes everything.
God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand.
Much energy has gone into proving that the resurrection of Jesus really happened in history. The argument against it is obvious. It’s crazy! Things like that don’t really happen. Not only that but people are naturally superstitious. Surely the resurrection is an extreme instance of wishful thinking.
There are many books that make the historical case for the resurrection. Most focus on the events which surround it. For some, this will be persuasive, for others it will not. For me, the greatest proof of the resurrection is not in a past event but in a present fact.
There is no earthly reason for hope. We are a mere speck in time. Our world is grinding to a halt. The sun will explode. Long before all that, I will die. Why do I hope? Why am I filled with joy? Why do I love? Why do I experience God?
My greatest reason for believing the the story of the resurrection is that I find myself in it.
