What Kind of a Friend Is God?

God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them. (Genesis 1:27-28a)

One-sided human relationships don’t last long. I’ve had “friends” who are all take and no give. Pretty soon I wind up avoiding them.

What kind of a friend am I to God? What do I bring to the relationship? Well… nothing.

My very existence is a gift. Everything I have is a gift. Anything I give to God is always something God first gave me. I’m a regifter!

With God, the deal is simple. God blesses me. I take the blessing and say “Thank you!”

I have a bad habit of thinking God is like a human and imagining that I have to keep things even-steven or lose the friendship. That’s not how God rolls. If it was, I’d be doomed.

God is all give. I’m all take. My job is not to somehow make things even with God (an impossibility). My job is to remember to love God and to give thanks (a delight).

Loving God only happens when I remember that he is unlike any friend I have ever had.

I like your comments, thought of the day being written out. I can go back and reread very easily.
You might go back and take the short video’s and write out what you said on the video. Paint a word picture as to where you are at and your thought of the day.

    THANKS

Great idea, David! Sadly, I won’t have the time to go back but going forward I’ll try to post some text along with the video. I definitely see your point.
