“I let go of making my birthday cake today. I enter Your rest”.

I know this may sound superficial, but it is my birthday today and I wanted to make this cake. I make it every year without fail. I am not a big cake fan, but this one is an exception. It is a chocolate Lincoln Log cake filled with whipped cream, a rich chocolate glaze, is high in calories and cholesterol, and is absolutely decadent and delicious.
But I am tired, don’t feel that great, and have decided that I don”t HAVE TO have this or any other cake or birthday symbol. Whether I like it or not, it does not change the fact that it is still my birthday today and it has been on December 31 ever since XXXX. (HaHa)
It is freeing and restful to not get or stay locked into a tradition, as good as it may be (or taste). This afternoon I am choosing to sit in the recliner, read my Bible, look up the gems listed in Revelation 21, doze off, and think about a quilt I want to make for someone.
Sometimes rest means not giving into tradition or obligation.

Congratulations on letting go, Julie. What a wonderful point!

Happy Birthday! If you ever whip up that cake, let me know and we’ll be over. Sounds YUMMY. Just sayin’ 🙂
