Today: Let kairos change everything

Chronos is the ups and downs of life—the events of life.
Kairos is a kind, or quality, of time.
Kairos transforms chronos.

John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Sometimes we paint having fun as being shallow. In this view, eating ice cream or playing golf or going to a good movie aren’t spiritual. But a right understanding of hope infuses everything with deep joy. Every joy is sweeter. Sorrow is made sweet sorrow.

Kairos is not about the ups and downs of life. It is about transcendent hope. Is you life more characterized by chronos (ups and downs) or kairos (transcendent hope)?

The Prayer of Hope

Dear God, open my eyes to your Kingdom today.

I don’t understand the reference to addiction as being happy without hope. I have known many addicted people and they are not happy, sometimes there is a glimmer of hope, its more a way to mask the pain they may be experiencing. They use the drugs or alcohol to self medicate their unhappiness. I’m confused as to what you are trying to say here.

Hi Laura, Sorry for the confusion! I think we’re on the same page. I agree that drugs/alcohol are no substitute for hope! They give a temporary euphoria. But it’s extremely empty.

Ahh…got it…I missed the TEMPORARY happiness in the lesson.
