We just had our 25 year old roof and rain gutters completely replaced. There was dryrot that was unseen from the outside that had to be meticulously removed and replaced with new wood. If this damage had been allowed to remain, the new roof will not be as effective as it is intended to be. So with dryrot removed and replaced, the new roof was installed. The house underneath this new roof is now protected and able to withstand the elements, and can serve its purposes as the Lord desires. The destruction and repairing and replacing was a costly and hard work. We knew the work was necessary and submitted to what had to be done. We had installed the old roof ourselves 25 years ago, but knew that at this time we weren’t able to do all the work that was needed. So others did the very hard work under hot conditions. The two-man crew was a father and son team who we learned are believers. They worked so well together and accomplished the job with excellence and joy, and were a wonderful testimony of the Lord’ presence.
This is such a parallel of the Lord’s working in us. The Lord did and does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Showing us our need, our dryrot, He meticulously removes it and replaces it with good, making it possible for Him to serve His purposes through us. All this is possible because of God’s love as expressed on the cross, that unfathomably high cost both the Father and the Son willingly endured.
