“And God saw that it was good.”
(Repeated over and over in Genesis 1)
For everything created by God is good,
and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude.
(1 Timothy 4:4)
I spend a lot of energy labeling the people and events in my life “good” and “bad.” Often I’m wrong. What I thought was a disaster turns out to be good. The person I labeled a villain ends up a hero.
Labeling is my problem. When God created the heavens and the earth, it was all good. The people events in my life are not bad. I have turned them into bad by refusing to trust God’s ability to work in all things for good.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
As a part of my worship today, I’m gonna stop trying to sort the world into “good” and “bad” and find the good in all things.
P.S. Genesis 1 is one of those hotly debated passages. Does it describe God creating the world in 7 days less than 10,000 years ago? No! For an excellent explanation of this chapter, take a look at these two wonderful 7 minute videos by Dr. Sandra Richter.
